ADONIS SCULPTURE
carved walnut, tung oil finish - wall hung - overall dimensions 34”x8”x3”
I made this sculpture in 2023. It is carved from a single piece of walnut that had grown around a barbed wire fence. Excavating the barbed wire left a hole in the middle of the piece of wood - fortunately, I love holes. Originally made as part of a body of work for a show titled ‘Myrrah’ at I.M.Weiss gallery, the piece was shown with a knit sculptural element protruding through the hole, made by artist Katie Shulman, and was displayed lying on its back on a low pedestal. I have reworked the piece to be a stand alone wall hung sculpture, the hole or ‘eye’ giving a glimpse of the wall hidden behind.
